Ornament draws with the body

Celestial ornament follows the collarbone, while Pattern in motion changes rhythm down a leg. Placement becomes part of the pattern.

A band can have movement

Celestial ornament extends across the upper chest with moon forms and fine swirling detail. Its overall curve follows the collarbone area, giving the band a relationship with the body rather than treating the chest as an empty rectangle.

The large direction is visible before the small pattern. That order matters: the ornament has a silhouette as well as an interior, and the silhouette determines how the piece occupies the body.

Repetition does not have to stay uniform

Pattern in motion brings several kinds of repetition into a leg composition. Dotwork petals, interlocking cube forms and star geometry have different visual densities. Their transitions change the rhythm as the tattoo moves downward.

Repeating a motif gives the eye something to recognize. Changing the motif can mark a transition or redirect attention. Both are compositional tools, and neither works independently of the space around it.

The empty intervals belong to the ornament

The gaps between dark forms help define the pattern. In a repeated arrangement, that open space can become a shape in its own right. The eye alternates between seeing the dark mark and seeing the interval it leaves.

Ornament is therefore not only the addition of detail. It is an arrangement of filled and open areas across a changing surface. The body gives that arrangement its scale, curve and movement.
